The Cultural and Creative Economy research group (CIND Creating) focuses on how the cultural economy is evolving and how we can understand its future. In particular we look at the economic geographies of  the creative and cultural industries

Background
There is an increasing focus in business and in politics on the role of culture and creativity as economic forces. Around the world and across all industrial sectors there has been talk about how immaterial aspects of a product or service – its design, the experience it gives, its image, what it symbolises – can greatly add to firms and regions’ competitive advantage.

A group of industries loosely labelled the cultural or creative industries can be seen to be at the cutting edge of using immaterial resources such as culture, knowledge, innovation, and creativity as the basis for their business success. These industries include: music, fashion, design, film, video games, art, publishing, literature, crafts, and media.

It is these industries that are the focus of CIND Creating’s research:

* We take an industrial and economic approach to the analysis of these industries and their innovation processes.
* We take an economic geography approach and analyse the role that cities and regions have for the competitiveness of these industries.
* We take a deep interest in the role of culture and creativity in the contemporary economy and in regional and urban development.

CIND Creating involves a group of researchers that is working on a series of interlocked projects that are funded by CIND, the Jan Wallander och Tom Hedelius Stiftelse, Vetenskapsrådet, the Nordic Innovation Center, the Nordic Council of Ministers. Our group has done extensive work in the areas of policy and consultancy to cultural industries.
